Home/Usage scenarios/Track contract payment milestones

USE CASES

Connect the payment date to the event behind it.

Keep payment obligations, responsible people, and supporting evidence with the agreement. Use fixed or supported event-dependent timing to reflect what the terms actually require.

01

Define the obligation precisely

Read the payment language and record the amount or relevant detail, the due-date basis, and the owner. Identify what evidence the verifier should review. Contract software is most useful when the source remains available to resolve questions about the commitment.

02

Choose the event that starts the clock

An obligation may be tied to signing, a contract date, a future event, or a previous verified commitment. Choose the basis that matches the terms and check it with the responsible people. Do not substitute a convenient calendar date for a different contractual trigger.

03

Keep the completion trail

Record the evidence and have the designated person verify completion where required. The next commitment can then follow its configured dependency. This gives finance and operations specific contract insights and a shared view of the sequence without making the contract platform the accounting ledger.

A FEW PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Before your next step.

Does recording payment evidence move money?

No. The workflow records and verifies a commitment. Actual payment remains in your payment or accounting process.

Can a milestone use a fixed date?

Yes. Use a specific date when that is what the agreement requires, instead of an event-based calculation.

Should payment dates be checked at renewal too?

Yes. Include the relevant payment commitments in contract lifecycle management reviews. Check the source and the recorded events before assuming an obligation has ended or changed with the next term.
